The soundtracks to animated Disney movies are known for being extremely catchy and well-loved. There are a wide range of songs featured in Disney movies over the years. Some of these songs are about exploration, some are about family, and many are about love. From Cinderella to Frozen 2, there have been many songs about love in the Disney animated films over the years. However, some of these songs are better than others.
We’ve put together a list of the best Disney love songs and ranked them leading up to the best.
“If I Never Knew You”
This song is from Pocahontas, and it’s a decent song overall. However, it’s bottom of the lost because this song wasn’t actually in the film as it was cut, but there was a version of it included in the movie’s credits. Also, there are definitely some issues with the Pocahontas story as told by Disney overall that makes it hard to root for the relationship. It’s definitely an instance of the Disney-fied version of a story being overly romanticized.
“Love Is An Open Door”
“Love Is An Open Door” is a rather catchy song that’s hard to get out of your head, and on its surface, it seems like a cute song about falling in love. However, given the fact that Hans turns out to be the villain of the movie, it’s hard to view it the same way in the end. While the idea of love opening up new views and ideas in life is a sweet thought, the fact that Hans was lying all along is really disturbing and makes the song not so lovely.
“Once Upon A Dream”
While many of the catchier Disney songs that are talked about these days are from newer movies, there are many amazing Disney songs that are from the classic films. “Once Upon a Dream ’’ is definitely one of the traditional love songs as it appeared in Sleeping Beauty. It’s a lovely, lyrical song that gets to the dreaminess and wonder of love. While the sound might seem outdated now, it will always be a classic that Disney princess fans over the decades have enjoyed.
“Kiss The Girl”
While many of the best love songs on this list are rather serious or romantic, this one’s on the more lighthearted side. “Kiss the Girl” isn’t sung by the two romantic leads as a duet, but it’s instead sung by Sebastian and the ensemble. It’s an extremely catchy song that people of all ages enjoy listening to.
While it might not be the deepest or most intricate love song, it’s definitely one that many people know and will always be associated with Disney princesses and love.
“(I Won’t Say) I’m In Love”
This song is from Hercules and is sung by Meg as she realizes she’s falling in love with Hercules. It’s a rather witty and relatable song that speaks to the fear of falling in love after you’ve been hurt before. Plus, the back and forth nature of the song with the Muses responding to Meg’s doubts makes it really fun to listen to and to sing.
“You’ll Be In My Heart”
While most of the songs on this list are about romantic love, this one is the exception. “You’ll Be In My Heart” is from Tarzan, and it’s centered mostly on a mother’s love.
While it might be more of a song about family, the way the lyrics are set up makes it so it can work as a love song for anyone that means a lot in your life. Phil Collins brings his great voice to the song, and the lyrics are endearing and also a little more complex than your average Disney love song.
“Beauty And The Beast”
There are quite a few classic Disney songs that people think of when they think of love and romance in the Disney world. The title song from Beauty and the Beast is definitely one of these. With memorable lyrics and a gentle sound, it’s one that is easy to associate with romance and slow dancing. However, the lyrics and ideas behind the song are a little bit outdated when it comes to gender roles, and for that reason, it’s not closer to the top of the list.
“Can You Feel The Love Tonight”
While many of the songs on this list come from Disney princess movies, this one does not. The princess movies are generally more focused on romance, but there are many other animated Disney films that have a romantic component to them. This song from The Lion King is just one of many well-loved and remembered songs from the soundtrack. It’s a rather romantic and intense love song that definitely has some sensual undertones to it. So, while it might not resonate with kids, it definitely does with adults.
“A Whole New World”
This is another love song that comes from the Disney renaissance. In fact, many of the entries on this list are from this era. This was definitely a great time for Disney movies, and the songs from this period are still well-known. This is a song that speaks to falling in love, wonder, exploration, and excitement. It’s definitely always going to be one of the most loved Disney love songs.
“I See The Light”
While many of the best Disney love songs are from decades ago, this is a more recent one. Tangled has a strong soundtrack that’s extremely catchy and interesting. The duet between Rapunzel and Flynn Rider is surprisingly beautiful and endearing and made even better with the vocal stylings of Mandy Moore. While the very best song overall will vary depending on personal opinion, this is one of the most gentle and romantic ones. Also, it’s a romance that speaks of equality and understanding which makes it especially beautiful.
