At the end of the day, Broad City is a romantic comedy. The Comedy Central series is a love story dedicated to the beautiful unbreakable friendship between Abbi Abrams and Ilana Wexler.
These two will do absolutely anything for each other, including saving one another from classy seafood restaurants, searching through all of New York City for Abbi’s phone, and throwing giant scavenger hunts for each other’s birthdays. If that isn’t pure romance, what is? There are plenty of beautiful moments on the show shared between all of the characters, and here are 10 of the most romantic scenes in the entire series!
LINCOLN GIVES ILANA THE “JEWESS” EARRINGS
One of the sweetest and most romantic gifts you could give to your significant other is something that is personal to them and their identity. Ilana is a proud “Jewess Kween”, and there is no piece of jewelry more fitting for her than the ones that Lincoln picks out.
It shows that Lincoln truly knows Ilana inside and out, and the anniversary gift goes with her quirky/playful personality to a tee. Lincoln and Ilana have always had a loving, unique relationship where he always loved her for being herself, and this is just beautiful proof.
TREY AND ABBI SHARE THEIR FIRST KISS
At first, Abbi didn’t take her boss Trey very seriously, and neither did dedicated fans of Broad City. He was originally written on the show as a satirical character who pretty much existed on the series in order to make fun of fitness junkies.
Yet as the series progressed, we got to know more about Trey’s character, and we realized that he was actually an incredibly sweet guy who simply wanted one thing: Abbi. When they first kissed, most of us were just as shocked as Abbi. Their romance might have been short-lived, but it was beautiful none the less.
ILANA AND ABBI WRITE THEIR NAMES ON THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE
There are some lovely couples and romances on Broad City, there is no doubt about it, but some of the most romantic moments on the show are shard between Ilana Wexler and Abbi Abrams. Although they are platonic soul sisters, they share a deep connection that is so pure and unconditional, that it is arguably more significant than any relationship between that of two lovers.
At the end of the series, there is a tear-jerking moment when the two best friends write their names on the Brooklyn Bridge, and it’s impossible not to feel your heart swell up during this moment.
LINCOLN AND ILANA BOND ON THE BOOZE CRUISE
Ilana Glazer is terrified of commitment, and she can’t see herself tied down to the same person for the rest of her life. Yet she can’t help but feel herself getting closer and more connected to Lincoln than ever before, and this is especially evident on the booze cruise when the crew is celebrating Jaime’s US citizenship.
She finds herself confused about her relationship with Lincoln, as they seem to evolve into more than just friends with benefits. It’s so cute seeing them bond and fall for each other, even if Ilana is terrified of the idea.
TREY SPENDS THE NIGHT WITH ABBI AFTER SHE’S BEEN ROBBED
It’s pretty evident that Trey will bend over backward for Abbi, and he will go all the way across town in order to make sure that Abbi feels safe. When Abbi’s apartment gets robbed, she immediately thinks of Trey and asks him to come over in an effort to make her feel more protected.
He is so considerate and sweet to her, that we can’t help but root for these two as a couple. If anything, it just proves that they make a great team and it’s so much more than a boss/employee relationship.
ILANA AND ADELE FIRST MEET
In a typical Broad City fashion, this moment is just as hilarious as it is beautiful and romantic. When Ilana is at a party, she sees this girl who looks almost identical to her. Played by Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat, her character Adele ends up sharing a passionate bond with Ilana that is filled with adoration and lust.
Yet once Ilana finds out Adele is her doppelganger (she is oblivious to it at first) she ends up unable to continue with the relationship because she wants someone who is totally different from her. Still, their connection is fascinating to witness.
ILANA AND LINCOLN REUNITE AT A MUTUAL FRIEND’S PARTY
Our hearts broke in half when Lincoln told Ilana he couldn’t see her anymore because he wanted to be in a monogamous relationship while Ilana didn’t. Although she acted as though she was okay with the fact that he moved on to another girlfriend, she was secretly broken inside. After several episodes of Lincoln being MIA, it was a glorious moment when they finally reunited at a mutual friends party.
Although they were no longer able to be together, the connection and love between the two was still there.
ABBI CARRIES ILANA OUT OF THE SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
Abbi and Ilana are the ultimate friendship goals. For Abbi’s birthday, they go to a seafood restaurant that Beyonce and Jay-Z went to, despite the fact that Ilana is deathly allergic to seafood. She doesn’t let it get to her though, because all she wants to do is make her best friend happy.
When Ilana practically dies on the floor of the seafood restaurant, Abbi sweeps her off her feet and carries her out of the restaurant. It is truly one of the best and most romantic moments in the entire series.
ILANA INTRODUCES LINCOLN AS HER BOYFRIEND
In the season 4 episode titled “House Sitting”, Ilana, Lincoln, and Abbi stay in a wealthy house for a weekend to house sit. Abbi goes on Bumble and finds her old teacher on the app, both swiping right on each other.
When she invites him over to the house they are sitting at, Ilana introduces herself to him and then introduces Lincoln as her boyfriend. It is truly one of the sweetest and most genuine moments on the entire series and we were all cheering when it finally happened.
THE FINAL SCENE OF THE ENTIRE SERIES
WARNING: this contains spoilers for the finale of Broad City.
And last but not least, the final scene in the entire series was so beautiful and romantic that our eyes swelled up with tears when we first saw it. In the scene, it showed a bunch of best friends sharing their own little adventures similar to Abbi and Ilana’s.
It proved that the series was a love story for best friends everywhere, and it made us appreciate our own friendships like never before.
