We’ve seen a lot of crazy and heartstopping moments on the popular show The Flash. From facing his greatest enemies to balancing his life with being a superhero, it seems like Barry has a lot to worry about. But that doesn’t stop him from being romantic, and sometimes the love spreads to the characters.
The show has proven time and time again that you can still be romantic even the weight of the world is on your shoulders and when you have to deal with threats on a daily basis. In six and a half seasons of the show, here are 10 of the most romantic gestures we’ve seen on The Flash.
Eddie Punching Barry For Iris
Our first entry comes from a moment in Season 1 when Eddie Thawne (ancestor of Eobard and Joe’s partner/Iris BF) angrily confronts Barry for his uncomfortable attempts to try to take Iris from him. In an unexpected turn, he finds Barry and lays on him warning Barry to stay away from Iris.
Now before we jump to defend Barry, keep in mind that Barry’s advances although innocent were unwelcomed by Iris and they really made her uncomfortable. Although she was hiding her feelings, it was only up to her to share them with Barry, instead Barry got too confident and pushed her to feel a way she didn’t.
Eddie was just doing what he felt necessary to protect his fiance, even if it was at our hero’s expense.
Iris Jumping Off A Building To Save Barry
Barry and Iris are the definition of ride or die, setting the example of relationships for many of our fellow Arrowverse heroes. In season 5 of The Flash Barry finds himself kidnapped by the villain Ragdoll, cuffed by meta dampening handcuffs so he definitely needed a rescue.
The stakes were even greater when Ragdoll had Barry on the edge of a building, as leverage for being set free. When he throws Barry off, Iris waste no time and dives off the building, not even thinking twice about it.
Although they got off safe and unscathed, it was still a big risk she took to save the man she loved without even thinking about her own life.
Julian Albert Bringing Caitlin Back To Life
Caitlins had bad luck with men. Whether it was losing them to accidents or falling for psychopaths, Julian is surprisingly one of the most stable relationships Caitlin had. Although they had a back and forth sort off romance, it was very clear they cared for each other.
In Season 3, Caitlin spends most of the season struggling with her alter ego, in a Bruce Banner/Hulk sort off way. She spends a lot of time in fear of becoming Killer Frost and stops at nothing to get rid of her. Even inches from death, she pleads Cisco and Julian to let her die rather than letting her become Killer Frost. Julian goes against her wishes and brings her back to life.
Although it was something Caitlin didn’t want, her expertise and ability to stay calm make her a valuable member of Team Flash. She was also able to come to terms and even befriend Killer Frost so it all turned out to work out, and it was all thanks to Julian Albert.
Iris Going Into The Speed Force To Bring Barry Back
Iris is either really in love with Barry or really reckless, probably both. In season 2, Barry is drained of his speed by the evil speedster Zoom, and in an attempt to gain his powers back is sent to the speed force.
For a while before, Barry was presumed dead as he vanished before everyone’s eyes and left the team in shambles as they watched the hero disintegrate. After finding out that Barry was alive and was stuck in the speed force, Cisco went in and tried to pull him out. When he failed, Iris volunteered to risk her life to bring him back, knowing full well what the risk where.
She did this all without even being in a relationship with Barry so imagine how big her love for him is.
Barry Buying A Home For Him And Iris
Season 3 put Barry and Iris’ relationship to the test. After two years of suspense, they finally decided to give their relationship a chance and it was quickly trumped by Barry’s travel to the future where he sees her die at the hands of Savitar.
Desperate to make as many memories with her as possible, Barry takes a leap and buys a loft for Iris, asking her to move in and start a life together.
How many of your significant other would buy you a house for Christmas?
Barry Proposing To Iris By Singing To Her
Staying on season 3, it really had a lot of romantic moments and big stepping stones for Barry and Iris. One came shortly after a Barry and Iris fight where Iris felt Barry was only proposing and maintaining a relationship due to his fear of losing her.
After talking it out Barry not only fixes his ways but also proposes to Iris a second time, this time using his singing talent to wow her and really make the best out of an otherwise stressful situation.
Iris Risking Her Life To Bring Barry Back
Iris is no stranger to risking her life, especially when it comes to Barry. As we mentioned earlier in the list, Iris is willing to do anything for Barry.
This moment comes in the season 4 premiere when Barry comes back after six months of being in the Speed force. Unfortunately, his time there made him an amnesiac and unable to remember his closest friends, including Iris.
Fortunately for Iris, the threat to her life was just enough to snap him out of his trance and unleash a Flash we had never seen up to that point.
Cisco Investigating Gypsy’s Murder
Cisco is a pretty well-known romantic, with a different love interest in just about every season. One of his most serious relationships is with Gypsy, a multiversal cop of some sort, who is one of the toughest breachers. Sharing the same powers the two built a romance we were all cheering for but it, unfortunately, came to an end in season 4.
The end of their relationship and his relationship with Kamilla doesn’t stop Cisco from helping Gypsys dad from investigating her murder and trying to get justice for his ex.
Although it was more for closure, it’s still sweet that Cisco dedicated himself to the case and was able to figure it out. Kamilla’s willingness to help and her understanding of the situation should also be considered romantic.
Earth 90 Flash Remembering His Late Wife
The current Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover has brought a lot of heroes from all over the multiverse to fight the great threat and many have unfortunately died as a result. Among those that risked their lives is The Flash from Earth-90.
In his final moments, he pictures his late wife that died prior to the Crisis, and that’s what motivates him to keep going. It had been years since he lost her and it is very obvious he still has a love for her as he literally spends his last seconds thinking of her.
Barry Spending An Entire Season Trying To Save Iris
Much of season 3 revolved around Barry and team Flash trying to save Iris from dying at the hands of Savitar and that includes Barry literally dedicating his life to saving Iris at all costs. He trains to get faster, he swallows his pride to talk to the man who killed his mother and even travels to the future to talk to himself to figure out how to save Iris.
Although it is heroic, Barry shows just how much he loves Iris by putting his own well being and life on hold to dedicate to Iris. We could even see the pain he went through watching the vision and how much Iris dying affected his life in the future.
