When we were introduced to Joffrey Baratheon on Game of Thrones, he was immediately dubbed the most despicable character on the series. But then we met Ramsay Bolton. The bastard son of Roose Bolton, he was a bona fide psychopath who put Joffrey’s murderous archery games and severed heads on posts look like child’s play. He brought his wrath upon anyone he crossed paths with and was not averse to cruel and unusual punishments.
His most notable scenes were during his lengthy and brutal torture of Theon Greyjoy. But that was just the beginning of his terrible deeds. During his constant ribbing and torture – all fun and games to him – he uttered horrifying words to his victims. Here are 10 of his most dastardly comments.
No Happy Endings
“If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention.”
Said during his torture session with Theon Greyjoy, these simple words said all Theon needed to know: that he was likely not going to get out alive, or at least not in the same condition in which he entered. The torture started with Theon being nailed up, and quickly escalated to his fingers being maimed, and his body overall being put through the wringer. It’s a wonder he was ever able to come back to some semblance of his previous self after that. What made it worse: Ramsay was enjoying every last minute of it.
Let’s Play A Game
“Let’s play a game: which body part do you need the least?”
Ramsay loved to play cruel games that often ended in death. Remember when he had little Tansy try and outrun his hounds in the woods, telling her that if she could make it out, she’d win? Unfortunately, she didn’t and was mauled to death. In this game, again inflicted on Theon, Ramsay was trying to decide which body part to cut off. In his eyes, he was being awfully considerate by allowing Theon to choose. What a nice gesture.
Give Me My Bride Back!
“I want my bride back. Send her to me, bastard, and I will not trouble you or your wildling lovers. Keep her from me and I will ride North to slaughter every wildling – man, woman, and babe – living under your protection. You will watch as I skin them living. You will watch as my soldiers take turns raping your sister. You will watch as my dogs devour your wild little brother. Then I will spoon your eyes from their sockets and let my dogs do the rest. Come and see.”
These were not empty threats. Ramsay meant every word he uttered or, in this case, wrote in a letter to Jon Snow. We had already seen him skin someone alive. We knew he loved feeding people to his dogs. He savagely killed Rickon, and raped Sansa repeatedly. Thankfully, Jon and Sansa did not bend to his wishes. But had they not won the battle, rest assured Ramsay would have made good on the promises.
Pleasurable Torture
“This isn’t happening to you for a reason. Well, one reason. I enjoy it.”
Only a true psychotic person could not only torture another human being, but do so with a smile on his face, as though it were all a fun game and he was skinning a dead animal for dinner. These words, spoken to Theon when he questioned why Ramsay was doing this to him, said it all. This was just all in a day’s work for the cowardly murderer.
The Right Cut
“This is mercy. I’m not killing you. Just making a few…alterations.”
Anyone who has seen the show will cringe at this statement, which was made by Ramsay right before he chopped off Theon’s penis, turning him into a eunuch. Referring to it as Theon’s most prized appendage (Theon openly loved the ladies, and getting into bed with them), Ramsay felt this a fitting punishment to further strip Theon of who he was and turn him into a slave he named Reek.
Sausage, Anyone?
“Those girls weren’t lying, you had a good sized cock. What? No…pork sausage. What, you think I’m some sort of savage?”
Spoken after Ramsay had mutilated Theon, he sat at the table with a sausage in front of him, devouring it as though he hadn’t eaten in days. As Theon looked on, Ramsay clearly wanted him to believe that he had cooked and was now eating his member. He wasn’t. (He was saving that for threats to the Greyjoys.) It’s just pork, Theon. Relax! Ramsay wasn’t an animal!
His Ironic Dislike of Jealousy
“Jealousy bores me. You remember what happens to people who bore me.”
Spoken to his “girlfriend” Myranda, who was just as sadistic as he, Ramsay didn’t take too well to her comments referencing Sansa’s beauty and Ramsay’s plans to marry the eldest Stark girl.
Ramsay, of course, showed no emotions at all aside from, ironically, jealousy. He would toss aside Myranda in a heartbeat should she annoy him in any way. And even though he did seem genuinely upset by her death (not at his hands, surprisingly), he still had her served to the dogs so as not to waste the flesh.
Watch Her Become A Woman
“You’ve known Sansa since she was a girl. Now watch her become a woman.”
Another cringe-worthy scene, right after their wedding, Ramsay proceeded to viciously rape Sansa. But as if that weren’t enough, he forced Theon, who grew up with Sansa, to stand in the corner and watch. He dare not look away, forced to witness the horrible abuse inflicted on the young girl.
Dinner Is Served
“I prefer being an only child.”
Ramsay was a bastard, and even though his father naturized him as a true Bolton, he wasn’t one for competition. So when his step-mother Lady Walda gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, he ensured that he would always remain top Bolton by luring her into the cage with his dogs, locking the door, and allowing the hungry hounds to feed on mother and babe. Talk about sibling rivalry!
A Feast For Hounds
“She’s a fine woman, your sister. I look forward to have her back in my bed. And you’re all fine-looking men. My dogs are desperate to meet you. I haven’t fed them in seven days. They’re ravenous! I wonder which parts they’ll try first. Your eyes? Your balls? We’ll find out soon enough. Until the morning then, bastard.”
Ramsay loved to taunt people as much as he loved physical torture, with his words being almost as despicable as the actions that often followed them. As he riled up Jon and his commanders, he used the only method of fight he could against an army, words. Showing his true cowardice, he refused to fight Jon on his own, yet was quick to threaten that once his army won (thankfully, they didn’t) Jon and his men would become supper for the hounds.
