DC Comics has exploded in the last couple of years when it comes to their many TV shows whether it’s on The CW, SYFY, FOX, or DC Universe. With over ten shows having been made since 2012, each respective show has grown its own fandom and presence on social media and the rest of the Internet. With great fandoms come great memes because as fantastic as these shows have been, there are definitely things to poke fun at.
Whether it’s about a speedster messing up time too much, heroes getting a bit emo, or various comparisons between DC TV and the DCEU, these are some amazing and clever memes that fans across the Internet have come up with.
The House of El’s “Secret Identities”
Who knows how long people have been questioning the notion that Superman and Supergirl’s biggest disguises are simply glasses. While there is definitely more to their methods than just hiding behind glasses, it’s still a bit funny.
Imagine if The CW’s Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) and the DCEU’s Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) were to cross paths in one way or another. How would they handle the “do people ever say that you look a lot like…” question?
Embrace Your Inner Hero (Emo)
Superhero media has come a long way with portraying our heroes as mopey or emo both on the big and small screen. That doesn’t necessarily mean that every property does it right though, especially with examples like Spider-Man 3, no matter how much we or Sony Pictures tries to forget it. Let’s pray that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man doesn’t face a similar fate in his third film. Some of the weaker examples of our heroes going the emo route can be found on The Flash.
When Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) went to visit the future in Season 3 in order to find out more about Savitar’s identity, he found something completely different. With Iris (Candice Patton) dead in this future, Barry for some reason seemed to take inspiration from Spider-Man 3 when it came to his hair, but a step worse. This meme nails it perfectly because this wig will never be forgotten in The Flash’s history.
Eager Flash
While fans have never gotten crossovers between the DC TV shows and the DCEU films, this is where the magic of memes comes in. If the World’s Finest came to The CW’s Earth-1 to ask for help, they would have found Barry and Oliver (Stephen Amell) as, at the time, the World’s Finest of that universe.
Someone as excitable as Barry would probably jump at the chance to help the duo out while not giving Oliver much of an option to volunteer. Although to be fair, Barry would fix their Brainiac problem before Oliver could even get started.
Gritty Fun
One of the earliest criticisms of the DCEU was that it was a lot darker than some fans are used to. This became an even bigger point of contention when comparing the movies to the Arrowverse shows that do their variety of grim and fun across their shows. Now, whether or not you personally agree with this is a debate in and of itself, but when seeing promotional images between the two universes, it does get hard to not crack a smile.
In defense for the DCEU movies, its tone has gotten more balanced in more recent years. It is, once again, up to each individual what they consider to be “dark” or not.
Arrows in Real Life
There are ways to tell how deep you are into the Green Arrow mythology or the Arrow show. Then there are ways to look at those characters in a ridiculous way when living your everyday life.
A sign that you’re getting too fascinated with traffic lights is where you refer to them as “Oliver Queen” and “Roy Harper” respectively. Why not look at the yellow light as “Mia Dearden” since that’s one of the two signature colors for her costume.
Super-Atom
Ever since Brandon Routh got cast as Ray Palmer (a.k.a, the Atom) on Arrow, people have brought up his Superman Returns role more than ever. As the Arrowverse grew and grew while introducing the Multiverse concept, many have wanted to see Routh reprise his Superman role. That’s finally happening in this year’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover as Routh will play a Kingdom Come inspired Man of Steel.
However, if Barry had messed with time more than he did, it could have been a whole different outcome. Even if Barry doesn’t intend to change the timeline, Routh suddenly finding himself in Superman’s shoes is still fun to imagine.
Thirsty for Timelines
While Barry does a lot of good as the fastest man alive, there is his tendency to time travel and ruin the world that can be discussed in lengths. Even if he doesn’t intend on screwing up the universe when he goes back in time, his actions still have a tendency of screwing everyone over.
If Barry had to get a different superhero name, it would probably be something along the lines of “Captain Timelines.” If his obsession with time travel was as bad as this meme portrays it to be, we would understand someone freaking out like crazy like Oliver.
Arrowverse Goes Civil War
For those who have followed Supergirl and The Flash will surely remember their first crossover back in the Girl of Steel’s first season. Barry accidentally traveling to Earth-38 is probably one of the best things to have ever happened to both him and Kara. Their first team-up was, without doubt, one of the cutest and most enjoyable crossovers of all time.
Although imagine if Oliver had been less than amused about Barry’s newest BFF book and decided to spark an incredibly petty version of Captain America: Civil War. Luckily, the three of them became DC TV’s perfect trinity
Time Travel Intervention
The Flash Season 3 didn’t start out well for Barry after causing Flashpoint to happen which changed things for various characters on Earth-1. However, Barry had to face some heat from not just his pals in Central City, but also his super-friends.
The Invasion! crossover became, unintentionally, a time-traveling intervention in many ways. Since Barry revealed to everyone what had been changed, people weren’t exactly thrilled, especially the Legends of Tomorrow.
DC TV Trinity’s Actual Reactions
For the final meme, it’s all about the DC TV trinity that may be one of the most spot-on gags of all time. Barry and Kara are, in many ways, incredibly similar and show a range of emotions which have been seen on their respective shows.
However, when Oliver came back from his 5-year-long journey, the Green Arrow had a tendency to be more brooding than he needed to be. Even though Oliver has evolved a lot over the last few seasons, this meme still nails the personalities of the DC TV trinity.
